H Street Festival 2012 Review

Because DC is so unique and diverse it seems like there is a festival every weekend. With the particular gentrified North East of DC, the H Street Festival became a quick hit among DC Locals. With over 35,000 people attending 2011, their goal for 2012 was 50,000 attendee’s. From Noon to 7pm, the 6 blocks hosted local businesses, DC Food trucks, 5 stages, fashion shows and pie eating contest.

Baltimore Rock Opera Society showed up again and entertained the crowd. Besides the ESPN-like booth, they converted an old Saab into the Brothership. The “BROs” use the Brothership to maximize audience participation into their hard-rocking performances.

This photo was better than what we took and thought we’d share. On top of a old police car, owned by Sticky Rice on H street, this artist was using the sun to burn wood as he was doing a portrait of a volunteer.

We hope you were able to visit the H Street festival. We really enjoyed attending and wanted to thank Julia Robey Christian for the press credentials. We look forward to the event next year!

2012 Fall Movie Guide

The Master (Sept 14)

A 1950s-set drama centered on the relationship between a charismatic intellectual known as “the Master” whose faith-based organization begins to catch on in America, and a young drifter who becomes his right-hand man.

Dredd (Sept 21)

The future America is an irradiated waste land. On its East Coast, running from Boston to Washington DC, lies Mega City One- a vast, violent metropolis where criminals rule the chaotic streets. The only force of order lies with the urban cops called “Judges” who possess the combined powers of judge, jury and instant executioner. Known and feared throughout the city, Dredd (Karl Urban) is the ultimate Judge.

Looper (Sept 28)

In the futuristic action thriller Looper, time travel will be invented – but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a “looper” – a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – is waiting to mop up.

Taken 2 (Oct 5)

Liam Neeson returns as Bryan Mills, the retired CIA agent with a particular set of skills who stopped at nothing to save his daughter Kim from Albanian kidnappers. When the father of one of the kidnappers swears revenge and takes Bryan and his wife hostage during their family vacation in Istanbul, Bryan enlists Kim to help them escape, and uses the same advanced level of special forces tactics to get his family to safety and systematically take out the kidnappers one by one.

Paranormal Activity 4 (Oct 19)

The fourth (and hopefully last) installment of the Paranormal Activity series. This follows the baby that was in the second movie.

Cloud Atlas (Oct 26)

An exploration of how the actions of individual lives impact one another in the past, present and future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and an act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution.

Man with the Iron Fists (Nov 2)

Quentin Tarantino presents The Man With the Iron Fists, an action-adventure inspired by kung-fu classics as interpreted by his longtime collaborators RZA and Eli Roth. Making his debut as a big-screen director, co-writer and leading man, RZA–alongside an exciting international cast led by Russell Crowe and Lucy Liu–tells the epic story of warriors, assassins and a lone outsider hero who all descend on one fabled village in China for a winner-takes-all battle for a fortune in gold.

Wreck-it Ralph (Nov 2)

Wreck-It Ralph (voice of Reilly) longs to be as beloved as his game’s perfect Good Guy, Fix-It Felix (voice of McBrayer). Problem is, nobody loves a Bad Guy. But they do love heroes… so when a modern, first-person shooter game arrives featuring tough-as-nails Sergeant Calhoun (voice of Lynch), Ralph sees it as his ticket to heroism and happiness. He sneaks into the game with a simple plan—win a medal—but soon wrecks everything.

007 – Skyfall (Nov 9)

Daniel Craig is back as Ian Fleming’s James Bond 007 in “Skyfall,” the 23rd adventure in the longest-running film franchise of all time. In “Skyfall,” Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

Lincoln (Nov 16)

Steven Spielberg directs two-time Academy Award® winner Daniel Day-Lewis in “Lincoln,” a revealing drama that focuses on the 16th President’s tumultuous final months in office. In a nation divided by war and the strong winds of change, Lincoln pursues a course of action designed to end the war, unite the country and abolish slavery. With the moral courage and fierce determination to succeed, his choices during this critical moment will change the fate of generations to come.

Hyde Park on Hudson (Dec 7)

The story of the love affair between FDR and his distant cousin Margaret Stuckley, centered around the weekend in 1939 when the King and Queen of the United Kingdom visited upstate New York.

The Hobbit (Dec 14)

Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor, which was long ago conquered by the dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakensheild. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

This is 40 (Dec 21)

A look at the lives of Pete and Debbie a few years after the events of Knocked Up.
