Kristen Berset, the Sports Anchor/Reporter for WUSA 9, is one accomplished person. Not only does she know her sports, she is a breast cancer survivor, and a former Miss USA contestant. I challenged her to share 10 things we didn’t know about her. Here’s what she spilled:
1) I have a cat named BenHi that I adopted from the Humane Society. He’s named after Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, where my beloved Florida Gators play! My dog’s name is Lainey, named after Elaine Bennes from Seinfeld.
2) I was crowned Miss Florida USA, and placed in the Top Ten at Miss USA 2004. I modeled professionally for 12 years in New York and Miami.
3) I am a true 80’s child, I had permed bangs and still attend New Kids on the Block Concerts. I’m going again this year and darn proud of it!
4) I am a Breast Cancer Survivor, diagnosed when I was just 27 years old. Now I use my TV platform to help educate women and raise awareness about the disease. My wonderful fiancé also encouraged me to compete in my very first triathlon this year. My Cancer Diagnosis opened my mind to trying new things I never thought I would do
5) My older brother’s nickname growing up was Bird, so everyone called me Birdseed. I hated it when I was younger, I would get so upset. Now, though, I’m cool with it. People also call me KB, K-Dawg, or Berset. Very rarely do my friends call me Kristen.
6) My shoe size is bigger than most males. I wear a size 12, but I’m also 5’11” so it balances out.
7) Me and Time do not have the best relationship. Ask everyone I’ve ever worked with. As hard as I try, I never seem to be on time.
8) I love music, and I love singing, even though I’m not very good at it. I’ve always fantasized about being a Rock Star! My very first acting role was in a local theater production of “The Box Car Children”. I played a Boy, the older brother, because I was taller than every other kid in the play.
9) My favorite job was as Co-Host of “The Professional Tarpon Tournament Series”, a fishing show broadcast around the country. In 2008, we took the show to Kuwait and Iraq and put on a fishing tournament for the Troops stationed in Baghdad! A truly memorable journey.
10) Growing up I always wanted to take Diane Sawyers Job!! Hey, there’s still time for this girls dream to come true!
