Did you think Easter had come and gone? By Zaytinya’s reckoning we still have another four and a half weeks to go. The Greek Easter Annual Celebration rages on until May 5th and offers creative takes on Greek Lenten and Easter dishes served alongside inventive cocktails by world renowned Chef Jose Andres and Zaytinya’s Head Chef Michael Costa.
I recently attended a reception at Zaytinya and had the opportunity to try canapés of a few of the Greek Easter dishes.
The first one I tried was the Spring Pea Tzatziki and it was was delicious! They used fresh English peas and cooked them until the texture was slightly al dente. The tartness of the yogurt and the pungency of the garlic made for an excellent tzatziki sauce. Some pistachios were added to give the dish a crunch.
Next I tried the Omeleta me Sparangini, it was a tasty asparagus and feta omelet that was spiced with dill, cumin, coriander and caraway seed and I found it very rich and satisfying. As a side note, Zaytinya uses cage-free eggs in their omelets.
Lastly, I had their pride and joy Easter dish, the Spit Roasted Lamb Shoulder. The meat is cooked perfectly and is served luxuriously tender. No need to even think about using your knife. It is accompanied with cucumber tzatziki, sweet gem lettuce and pickled onions.
These dishes are on the menu until May 5th. They also have some special events in store for you during the celebration:
